Lee Yoo-soon, director: Youngdo Velvet was founded in 1960 and is an artisan company that has been operating as a single item of fabric called velvet. 98% of the products produced by our company are exported to 124 countries overseas, and common fashion customers include Chanel and Gucci. We are exporting all over the world, and we can be proud of being the best in the world as a velvet fashion item.

After steady research, he entered the IT industry and is developing electric-related velvet products for the LCD display industry and electric vehicles.

Q2. Purpose of participating in the exhibition

A. Director Lee Yoo-soon: The item that was conceived with the goal of becoming a 100-year company was industrial material, and the key among them is to develop all items that can be used in electric vehicles. We made a plan two years ago and are currently conducting research for basic market entry in R&D. As a long-term project looking ahead to 10 years, it is in the beginning stage, and related fields are being introduced at this exhibition.

Q3. Please explain a little more about electric vehicles.

A. Lee Yoo-soon, director: The technology we have been doing for 60 years is velvet weaving, which is made up of multi-dimensional space structures. Since all electricity, air and temperature stays for a long time, it has the advantage of strong power. Based on this know-how, we are researching velvet that absorbs heavy metals as well as dust in the air. Second, he is also redeveloping battery anodes to increase the power of electric vehicles.

In addition, iron, the outermost part of a car, is bound to come off when an impact is applied. Our elastic steel velvet has good elasticity and strength when made of a composite material because air stays inside, but it has the advantage of being safe because it can bounce off like a sponge in case of a big impact.

With these three concepts, we are developing yarns, weaving methods, and composite materials.

Q4. future plans

A. Director Lee Yoo-soon: Our customers are industries, not companies. The company exports to fashion materials and displays. The company also occupies 95% of the rubbing cloth, which is the most necessary for making LCD screens in displays. When a new display such as OLED or LED comes out, it becomes a new customer.

In advanced materials, customers can continue to change, so we are targeting industries and aiming to participate in the development of industrialization.

Meanwhile, Daegu International Textile Fair PID 2022, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, aims for the future value of sustainable textiles and the new normal era, including yarn, fabric, functional & eco-friendly materials, DTP, subsidiary materials, bedding, fashion clothing, and textile machinery. It introduced the latest items in the textile and fashion stream. In addition, various on-off business platforms, such as new materials & eco-friendly special halls and video conferences through online marketing platforms, as well as various experiences and textile cultural contents, were provided.
